We’ve launched into the new academic year with great energy, beginning with the Women in ME/ASHRAE Dinner, attended by 30 students who came together to celebrate and support women in HVAC&R and Mechanical Engineering.
Our HVAC&R Industry Showcase drew over 300 students, marking it as one of our most successful events yet! This was followed by our Annual Event, which kicked off with a vibrant mixer on Friday, October 11, and continued with our much-loved Golf Tournament at Avila Beach Golf Resort, an iconic Wine Tour, and thrilling mountain biking on Saturday. All proceeds from this event help sustain the premier HVAC&R education that Cal Poly is known for nationwide.
Did you miss this year’s event? Don’t worry—next fall, we’re planning our biggest celebration yet: the 20th Anniversary of our Annual Event!
We’re also thrilled to share that Dr. Mott and our new ASHRAE Student Club advisor, Lauren Rueda, took five of our female-identifying students to the inaugural Women in ASHRAE Leadership Symposium in Chicago, held on September 26–27. It was a proud moment to see our students representing Cal Poly with strength and enthusiasm at this landmark event.
Upcoming this fall, our ASHRAE Student Club will embark on a field trip to the Bay Area on November 7–8, providing students with valuable industry exposure and hands-on learning experiences.
In the new calendar year, we’ll start strong with another Women in ME/ASHRAE Dinner on January 23, followed by our annual Net-Zero Design/Construction-A-Thon from January 24–26, 2025.
At Cal Poly, we’re committed to setting the gold standard in undergraduate HVAC&R education. This success is made possible by the generous contributions of our HVAC&R industry supporters—thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Students were tasked to present the methods and decisions that went into selecting an HVAC system for a single-story laboratory facility in Cairo, Egypt. This 2,515 m2 (27,000 ft2) new construction contains a variety of rooms, including wet bench labs, dry bench computational labs, research support offices, a common area for circulation, a break room, and an atrium reception area. The owner specified building requirements including a budget, operating hours, and a space function analysis.
